Doodles January 20, 2010

This past Christmas I received some crayons and this coloring book as a present:

‘Doodle All Year’ by Taro Gami is a book of 365 adorable doodle and coloring prompts, divided into sections for each of the four seasons, that get you started with a few basic images and tons of blank space in which to add to them. Among the multitude of creative and original prompt ideas are instructions like “Add some bugs to this tall grass!” and “Light this mosquito coil. It will make a lot of smoke!” that are supposedly fun for all ages.

After spending some time doodling with my friends this past weekend, I can vouch for that statement. We started out by just following the prompts and drawing a few storm clouds (“Uh oh! It turned into a thunderstorm!”), but once we actually had the crayons in our hands the creative juices began to flow and we started adding our own ideas to the page. Eventually we ended up completely re-writing the prompts and drawing what we felt like, but if it weren’t for all of the cute little images already drawn in the book we would have had a much more difficult time getting into it. Here are a few of the completed pages:
