My year-end coverage for 2012 continues with an idea that was shamelessly, directly stolen from Cokemachineglow. That is all.

1. Best Spoiled Surprise

Pink

Four Tet – Pink

If you’re going to release an album, try to refrain from releasing all of its tracks as singles a year before.

Runner-Up: Purity Ring – Shrines

2. Best Album That Leaked Before 2012 Began (a.k.a. The “They Put Out An Album This Year?” Award)

PlumbField Music – Plumb

I remember putting this album on my list of things to remember at the end of 2012. It didn’t work.

Runner-Up: Zammuto – Zammuto

3. Best Album of 2013

FadeYo La Tengo – Fade

All for the love of jumping the gun.

Runner-Up: Shugo Tokumaru – In Focus?

4. Best Album I Discovered in 2012 That Was Actually Released Five Years Ago

OdoriRadicalfashion – Odori

It’s not new, but it’s new to me.

Runner-Up: The Hospitals – Hairdryer Peace

5. Best Album That Should’ve Just Cut Its Losses and Been an EP

Fragrant WorldYeasayer – Fragrant World

Cut the fat, guys.

Runner-Up: The Shins – Port of Morrow

6. Most Self-Aware Album Title

(III)Crystal Castles – (III)

Anyone else kind of disappointed that this wasn’t called “Crystal Castles”?

Runner-Up From The Future: Marnie Stern – The Chronicles of Marnia

7. Guiltiest Pleasure

Die YoungKe$ha – “Die Young”

Because I was too embarrassed to admit that I actually like the runner-up.

Runner-Up: Owl City ft. Carly Rae Jepsen – “Good Time”

8. Guiltiest Displeasure

BloomBeach House – Bloom

I thought I was a loyal Beach House fan, but this bored me beyond belief.

Runner-Up: Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti – Mature Themes (sorry, but I just don’t get this guy)

9. Lamest Album Cover on a Legitimately Good Album

ConfessTwin Shadow – Confess

If I didn’t know anything about Twin Shadow, I would not listen to this.

Runner-Up: Chairlift – Something

10. Most Comedic Letdown

Born To DieLana Del Rey – Born To Die

The production reminds me of the soundtrack to MIB III.

Runner-Up: Lana Del Rey’s performance on SNL

11. Most Undeserved Grammy Nominations

Some Nightsfun.

Seriously, this band is terrible. What?

Runner-Up: Frank Ocean (he’s good, but he’s not THAT good)

12. Best Impression of Rebecca Black’s “Friday”

The Only PlaceBest Coast – “The Only Place”

Yes we always, yes we always, yes we always have fun.

Runner-Up: Grimes

13. Worst

Like, ever.

Runner-Up: Taylor Swift, Taylor Swift’s Red
